Nicholas Smith
Nicholas holds a BA degree (University of Cape Town), a BA (Hons) (University of Natal) and an LLB degree (UCT), as well as an Advanced Diploma in labour law (from the University of Johannesburg). He completed a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in environmental law and policy at UCT in 2001 under Professor Jan Glazewski.
Nicholas was admitted as an attorney in the then Transvaal Provincial Division in February 1996, and in the Cape of Good Hope Provincial Division in March 1998. He has practised exclusively in the field of environmental, constitutional and administrative law since 1998.
Nicholas is a very experienced environmental lawyer who has practised exclusively in this field for over 20 years. Before that, he gained experience relevant to environmental legal issues as a significant part of his professional practice at a leading Johannesburg-based boutique corporate litigation practice.
By virtue of the breadth of his practice and diversity of his client base, Nicholas’ expertise in environmental law encompasses all of the relevant sectoral legislation in South Africa that regulates environmental issues. He also has significant experience in administrative law (particularly judicial review applications), and a good understanding of the constitutional paradigm within which environmental and administrative justice legislation must be interpreted and applied.

Sandy Gardner
Sandy is a highly experienced and very skilled senior administrator who has worked for leading law firms both in South Africa and abroad since 1995. Sandy started working with Nicholas in January 2007 and she is responsible for all of the day-to-day administrative operations of the firm.
Babalwa Njaba
Babalwa is the firm’s office administrator and receptionist. Babalwa has been working with Nicholas since 2004, and is an integral part of the day-to-day running of the firm.
